Much of the post-election recrimination has focused on the wrong things - on feckless second-guessing and on proposed strategies that range from utopian to counterproductive.

In addition to facing full GOP control in Washington, Democrats currently hold only 18 of 50 governorships and 31 out of 99 state legislative chambers.Īlthough the 2016 outcome holds no silver lining, it does create an opportunity to take stock of center-left strengths and limitations, bolster party organizations, and devise new and more effective strategies for organizing and mobilizing citizens.

Since the heady days of 2008, Democratic elected officeholding has plunged in all but coastal liberal states plus a few islands of blue in the center of the country. Now partisans and pundits alike are debating the “crisis of the Democratic Party.” Such stocktaking would have been needed in any event. This gamble came up just short - in a narrow Electoral College loss with huge consequences for the country. The Wanderer ships are pretty good as well when they start gearing up for war, but the Heliarch Punisher edges that out slightly IMO.For 2016, Democrats put all their chips on a bet that demographic destiny would sweep Hillary Clinton into the White House on the backs of the “rising” Obama coalition of young, minority, and female voters.

Fortunately that's generally after completing Free Worlds storyline just rush the L1.5 Pugs. Unfortunately it gets obsoleted when outrange starts getting obsolete and you have to switch to a ship with more turrets. Inhibitor cannons have nice DPS-to-space ratios but require a lot of gun slots, which is the main thing Weapons Kestrel gives (18 front-facing gun slots!). Weapons Kestrel with tons of inhibitors and only a single anti-missile turret is awesome. I haven’t tried using the weapons kestrel or inhibitor cannons much so I’ll give that a try. I generally don't, though as noted this is a single-player game and this is certainly something you could put in your own personal ruleset. I don’t know if you allow fighters/drones in your solo runs, but the korath fighters/drones have good survivability when used to instantly overheat isolated ships, allowing you to even take down quarg with a human carrier. I haven't tried overheating at all can you provide a sub-guide for this? My own experience with attempts at overheating have generally been trying to get that short-ranged fuel-burning weapon, but it requires packing on a good amount of ramscoops and/or fuel tanks.
Flamethrowers are fast and replenishable, and overheating can be used to isolate enemies without even having to cheese the AI’s inexplicable border – overheat one ship then kite the rest away, return, overheat it again, and tow it away until the rest catch up before repeating. I was surprised you don’t mention using overheating, as it’s one of my favorite ways to defeat superior ships. I’ve had my best luck with dreadnaughts, 349s, and punishers (which are surprisingly fast with korath engines!), plus solifuges and carriers if I want fighters.
I usually mess around designing solo ships and maxing them out before starting any of the storylines (I’ll absolutely give that single wardragon some help so I can get that punisher immediately). I love messing around with combinations of pulling and pushing weapons to separate enemies. Great post! I play solo too and use similar strategies.
